Things We Love

What we loved this month-May

What we loved this month-April-2

Changing it up– This month the StrideBox team decided to sign up for a sprint triathlon this summer. That means we don’t have to brush up on just our running, but our swimming and biking as well! Read more about it and keep up with the teams progress on the StrideBox Blog.

Vacation– With summer just around the corner we are gearing up for some exciting vacations. Vacations for us mean runs in new areas! Don’t forget to go running while you are traveling. It is a great way to see a new area and will keep you from feeling sluggish and tired when you get back to your normal running routine.

The Runsie– A running onesie? Yes, it is happening. And it is making quite an impact. Our first reaction was basically, “A WHAT? Um why”. But after further thought a few of us came around to the idea, and not having to worry about the shirt-rising-up vs pants-falling-down thing sounded pretty appealing? What’s your vote?

StrideBox Socks– Wow, you all really blew us away with how fast you snapped up the StrideBox Socks! We sold out in one day and donated all proceeds to War Fighter Sports. Apparently we need to make more socks, so stay tuned!

What We Loved This Month- April

What we loved this month-April

April training brings May PRs. Or at least that’s what we hope for.

1. Look what just showed up at our office! We now have an official 2011 New York City Marathon Banner to decorate our office with! Because we all know runners have great interior design sense.

2. Pushups- they are an easy way to get a quick burn and they will get your arms looking great for summer. Squeeze 20 or 30 into your lunch break or before you shower. But don’t forget, form is important!

fff776093db1634df0405aae209afaca_original4. Drink water. So simple but so hard some day! Luckily there are always new innovative ways to get your hydration. Hydaway Bottle is a start up based here in Bend, OR. With a super successful Kickstarter campaign we look forward to being able to buy these bottles in the near future!

5. Here at the StrideBox office we have a serious snacking at work problem. How else would we know what awesome nutrition to put in each box? The people who invented this keyboard know us too well!

6. Boston Marathon- April 20th was another great day for the running community. It is amazing to see how unified a large group of people can be. And the stories that come out of it can’t be beat. Our personal favorite is the dad running at the front of the pack for a mile so his kids could see him on tv! Too cool

10 Tips for Watching a Marathon (Or Any Race)

Watching-A-Marathon

We all know running a marathon isn’t easy, but neither is watching one. Whether you are cheering at the finish line or watching from your couch these tips will help you work the side lines like a pro.

1. Make a plan- Know what heat your runner is in. Work out what time you think they will finish and have a pre-selected meeting place so you don’t end up searching through all the sweat and spandex.

2. If you are there simply for the experience research some of the top runners competing that day so you feel more involved.

3. If you are watching from home find a good live stream either on tv or online. A simple search should take you to a good quality streaming site.

4. Bring supplies- The fastest marathon time is 2:02:57 but the average time is somewhere around 4 hours so get comfortable. Bring snacks, water, a course map, and shoes you can stand in for a while.

5. Make a sign- Come up with a funny or inspirational saying and make it big and colorful. What makes racing fun is the environment and you are a big part of that!

6. Don’t be afraid to get loud. This is no symphony! Break out your cow bell and get out there! People will sometimes write their names on their bibs, that means you can cheer them on by their name and make it more personalized.

7. Respect the course and those around you. Don’t cross the course unless you are sure there are no runners around. The last thing you want to be in is the way of someone who has been running for hours.

8. Scope out the route ahead of time. Can you drive around it or do you need to pick a spot and stay there.

9. Things not to say- Don’t say you’re almost there to a runner unless they are almost to the finish line. No one wants to hear that. Also don’t tell runners how many miles they have left unless you know the exact distance.

10. Take photos- Whether its your first marathon on your 50th, document the experience!

Now get out there and cheer on some runners!

What We Loved This Month: March

What We Loved This Month- March

1. Rundana

rundana

The temps are starting to rise now that it’s March. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not still below freezing in the morning. We love to throw on a Rundana before hitting the pavement in the AM. Plus they are having a spring clearance! Check them out here

2. Pi Day and Pie

Is there anything better than Pie? It makes a great post run recovery snack.

3. Earth Hour

Earth Hour happens once a year and is participated in all over the world. On March 28th from 8:30-9:30pm local time all lights and electronics are turned off. Learn more about it and join in!

4. Daylight Savings Time

Truth is yes, we may still have some clocks that are an hour off, but we don’t care! We are out celebrating more daylight after work with evening runs and hikes.

5. From Eden by Hozier

Is there a limit on how many times YouTube lets you replay something?
